A patented oil recovery device developed by Carmi-based Elastec American/Marine has been recognized by National Geographic and The Washington Post as one of the best energy innovations of 2011.
The firm's grooved disc oil spill skimmer that won the $1 million first prize in the Wendy Schmidt Oil Cleanup X Challenge last October was cited by both publications.
Elastec's device was listed as No. 2 on National Geographic's "Most Hopeful Energy Developments of 2011." The Washington Post ranked the device No. 13 among the best moments in innovations in 2011.
