Wind gusts of 97 mph were reported at Whitaker Peak in the Angeles National Forest as the number of people without power Wednesday night continued to grow, officials said.
About 25,500 customers in areas served by Southern California Edison were without power, the utility said. Earlier, about 14,000 had no electricity.
Areas hit by outages included neighborhoods in Venice, Mar Vista, Westchester, Monrovia, Pasadena and La Cañada Flintridge. Some of those areas later had power restored, residents said.
